한지와 멍석과 떡살의 기억
나는 어린 시절 시골 농촌에서 태어나 성장 하였다. 가을 맑고 청명한 날 집안에 있는 모든 창문을 창틀에서 분리하여 찢어지고, 오래되어 때가 묻은 창호지를 일제히 바꾸는 작업을 매년 해왔던 것이 생각난다. 창이 많다보니 하루 동안 온 식구가 동원되어 창호지를 뜯어내고, 먼지 닦고, 풀칠하고, 붙이고, 손잡이 있는 부분은 예쁜 꽃잎을 붙이고 하는 작업이다. 모든 일이 끝나 저녁이 되면 마르지 않은 창문을 다시 제자리로 옮기고 모두들 피곤한 몸으로 잠을 청한다. 아침 새벽 동이 트면 방안에는 밝고 깨끗하고 화사한 빛이 들어오며 손잡이 있는 부분에는 흰색의 창호지 위에 빨강색의 몇 개의 꽃잎이 있어 더욱 돋보인다. 깨끗하고 땡땡한 창호지와 간간이 보이는 새빨간 색의 꽃잎 나는 이와 같은 창과 창호지에 대한 기억을 잊을 수가 없다.
농촌에 가을이 오면 벼, 고추, 콩, 깨 등 각종 농작물을 추수 한다. 모든 농작물은 멍석 위에서 말려서 추수하는 것이다. 또한 집집마다 혼인이나 초상이나 각종 대 소사가 있을 때 항상 멍석을 깔아놓고 손님을 맞이한다. 막걸리 한잔에 둥실둥실 춤을 추던 즐거운 잔치 날이나 사랑하는 가족을 잃고 슬픔에 젖어 흐느낄 때도 우리는 멍석을 사용하여 왔다. 이와 같이 농민들의 삶과 애환이 담겨 있는 것이다. 추운 겨울 농한기가 오면 몇몇 할아버지 들이 사랑방에 모여 볏짚으로 멍석을 짜는 것도 농촌의 일과였다.
구정이나 추석이 되면 우리는 쌀을 찌어 떡을 한다. 떡을 만든다음 반드시 떡살을 찍어 떡을 완성 시키는 것이다. 아름다운 꽃들의 간결한 모양은 우리 민족 최초 Design의 시작이라 할 수 있다. 또한 떡살의 다양한 문양은 “복”을 상징하고 있다 한다. 다시 한번 우리네 조상들의 미감과 지혜를 느낄 수 있다.
나는 이와 같이 우리 고래의 것들이 오늘 날 아쉽게 사라지고 없어져 가는 것을 차용하여 작품으로 연결 하고 있다. 한지와 멍석, 떡살 등을 어떻게 현대화할 지, 새로운 미학과 새로운 미적 표현이라는 것을 화두로 작업은 계속 이어지고 있다.

I was bornin country, my childhood I grew up in rural countryside. One day clear sky in the autumn, it is reminiscent of what I have been doing every year to clean all the windows in my house. The windowsill ripped them apart, and changing the old paper of the old times. That day all day long family members gathered and clean up because there are many windows, to take out the paper, clean the dust, paste it, attach it, and attach the pretty petals to the part with the handle. In the evening all things are over, the windows that were not dried are moved back into place, and everyone sleeps tired. I cannot forget the memories of such windows and papers even clean very tensional papers. When fall comes, it harvests various crops such as rice, pepper, bean, and sesame. All the crops are dried on the straw mat. Whenever there is a marriage, a portrait or various other societies, the house is always uses the straw mat for welcomes guests. Whenever we have a happy feast day and dancing with drink the some rice wine, We have been using straw mat. The straw mat is belong with, when we lose something from it feel sad or loved ones. In this way, the farmers' lives and feelings are contained. When it came to cold winter season, some grandparents gathered in a private room and weaving straw mats with rice straws was a rural routine. When it is Korean New Year or Thanks giving, we have a rice cake which ahs lot of pattern shape we are possible to make it. After making the rice cake, you must make the rice cake mold to finish the rice cake. The rice cake mold is simple shape of beautiful flowers is the beginning of our nation's first design. Also, various patterns of rice cake are symbolizing "Good luck." Once again, we can feel the beauty and wisdom of our ancestors. I have thus linked my whale's work to my work by borrowing what is disappearing today. To Work continues on how to modernize Korean paper, straw mat, and rice cake mold and pattern, in these material will be a new aesthetic way to expression.
